Fur Demonstration TODAY Friday, September 8 6:15 PM

Burberry clothing is a gift sponsor for “An Elegant Affair Opera Ball 2006” in San Francisco. Burberry may be best known for its distinctive plaid, but its use of real fur is making the design house synonymous with cruelty to animals. Burberry continues to design with fur despite the fact that leading clothing retailers like J. Crew, Ann Taylor, Ralph Lauren, and others have pulled fur from their stores forever. Animals raised on fur farms are kept in small, filthy cages and exposed to all weather extremes before being killed by gassing, neck-breaking, or genital electrocution. Learn more about what’s wrong with fur at www.FurIsDead.com.

Please join local activists in front of the opera house as they protest Burberry’s cruel use of fur and urge the company to remove fur from its fashion designs – activists are needed to hold posters and pass out leaflets.

What: Burberry protest at “An Elegant Affair Opera Ball 2006”.

When: Friday, September 8th, 6:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
Where: 301 Van Ness Avenue, San Francisco, CA 94102
(Activists should meet at the corner of Grove St. and Van Ness Ave. at 6:15pm)
Please contact Alex Bury with any questions and to let her know you can help: 650-452-8712 or AlexB@petaf.org.

Please dress nicely so attention is given to our message, not our clothes (please no jeans/T-shirts). All materials will be provided so just bring you, your friends, and your family! Please cross post this email to others who would be interested in standing up for animals killed for their fur. We hope you can make time for this important demonstration. Even if you haven’t been to a demo before, please make time to attend – it would be a great experience! Deedra Aro Activist Liaison

Cindy Sheehan and activists in the growing peace movement plan to
move Camp Casey to the National Mall in Washington, D.C., September
8 - 21. The camp on the Mall will carry the name Camp Democracy at
Fort Fed Up. Organizers intend the camp to bring together peace
activists with activists for social justice, united in demanding a
shift of public resources from war to the needs of people.
Participants will lobby Congress to end all funding of the
occupation of Iraq, and will demand that Congress hold the Bush
Administration accountable for the falsehoods that launched the war
and the abuses of power here at home that have accompanied it. Camp
Democracy is launching an outreach effort to include organizations
in the planning of the camp's activities, which are all in the
initial stages. Organizations already on board are listed on the
website:
http://campdemocracy.org
Participating organizations and guest experts and celebrities will
provide workshops and training sessions on a wide range of issues,
as well as on communications, voter registration, nonviolent civil
disobedience, lobbying, organizing, media production, and
performance arts. Congress Members and congressional candidates will
take part. Local elected officials will instruct attendees on
participation in local government. Musicians will perform concerts.
New films will be shown on a large screen. Participants will acquire
useful skills while demanding fundamental change.

Yard Dogs Road Show
http://www.eddyjoecotton.com/yarddogs.html

Born from the saloon vaudeville that toured the Wild West in the late 1800's. Slammed into the underworld of modern American road culture. The Yard Dogs combine the elements of vaudeville and burlesque - creating a timeless space for the union of ancient theatrical alchemy and modern pop culture. A true story on stage. Sword swallowers, fire eaters, burlesque, rambling hobo poetry and sideshow oddities all animated by the live sounds of the Yard Dogs cartoon gypsy band, The Golden Wings of Glory.

"Burlesque inspired, hair on fire, electrified cartoon music played by a well dressed jug band in a dark circus tent with a man swallowing swords and hobo rambling poetry . Oh yeah, and did I mention the dancing girls, dancing girls, dancing girls! The Yard Dogs offer much more than entertainment. They peddle adventure and soulful abandon...a wild electrifying sense of freedom...written by the light of campfires with the hand of wine, music, lust and dust." -SF Weekly

# We are not going to work on 9-11. That might be good for some of us, but what if.....

EVERYONE THAT WOULD JOIN WITH US ALL OVER THE COUNTRY......

DID NOT BUY ANYTHING....NOT ONE PENNY SPENT ON THAT DAY...

maybe the message would hit home faster to the Bankers and Government.
Does anyone want to run some figures to see how much the Corporations would lose in profits for our one day of standing? Would it take more than one day to express our choice?
Just a thought. Lou (AZ)

SEPTEMBER 11 - WORK A DAY FOR PEACE

One hundred years ago, on September 11, 1906 Mohandas Gandhi convened a meeting in Johannesburg, South Africa, to mobilize his community to oppose racially degrading legislation. That September 11th, more than 3000 people solemnly pledged to disobey the proposed law, despite the consequences, without the use of violence. This fall, Nonviolent Peaceforce invites you to resolve to break the new cycle of violence that began on September 11, 2001.

GATHER to break the cycle:
Gather with others to reflect on the teachings of Gandhi, to take the Resolution together, to discuss working for the use of nonviolent solutions to conflicts. We've provided a leaflet template you can edit, a Gathering Guide, background articles, and other resources you can use locally to hold your own 100th Anniversary event.

WORK A DAY to break the cycle:
The Nonviolent Peaceforce works in the field every day to break the cycle of violence. You can work locally-by donating a day's pay or the cost of a day's unarmed civilian peacekeeping, by volunteering your time, by learning more nonviolence skills.

RESOLVE to break the cycle:
"I choose to break the cycle of violence. I will seek to resolve my own conflicts without violence; and I will encourage nonviolent responses to conflict by my neighbors, governments, and civilians worldwide."

GO TO http://www.workadayforpeace.org
We will deliver your resolution signatures to the UN Secretary General after November 11, the anniversary of the end of World War I. This will help us in our work to urge the United Nations to explore unarmed peacekeeping as an alternative to armed peacekeeping.

# September 11-12th, 2006- 9/11 Film Festival

Premiere of new film of David Ray Griffin- "9/11 the Myth and the Reality"
September 11, 2006, 6:30 pm
Grand Lake Theater
3200 Grand Lake Avenue
Oakland, California

Doors open at 6:00 each night, trailers, previews and shorts start at
6:30, film premieres start at 7:00. Q & A / discussion with the
filmmakers follows each night.

This will be the world film premiere of David Ray Griffin's talk given
at the Grand Lake Theater March 30, 2006 to a sold out audience.
Griffin's presentation was videotaped with six cameras, and 9/11
filmmaker Ken Jenkins has illustrated the film with hundreds of
graphics and clips. This video will likely become not only the
definitive Griffin DVD, but will likely serve as the Loose Change for
the older generations. Griffin condensed the highlights of his first
two books on 9/11 into a dynamic presentation. A slightly shorter
version of the same talk was given April 3rd at the prestigious
Commonwealth Club in San Francisco, and much of the footage in the
film is from that location. The premiere will be followed by a
question and answer session with filmmaker and 9/11 activist Ken
Jenkins

# 9/11 CITIZENS Court in Wash DC on September 11 - 18
This is from a founder of Veterans for 9/11 Truth http://www.V911T.org
This Sept 11, 2006 a new era will dawn on America. On that day the
people will convene and move through the legal recourse needed to
redress the government. At no other time in our nations history has so
important a moment drawn near. As the war of lies passes the $500
Billion debt mark and 3000 US dead along with 100,000's in the nation
we "saved", as freedom and liberty has been sold out to a federal
police force, as all Americans have been affected by corporate and
limited liability governments and municipal codes, time has come for
the change

Doors open at 6:00 each night, trailers, previews and shorts start at
6:30, film premieres start at 7:00. Q & A / discussion with the
filmmakers follows each night.

In August 2005 Jim Hoffman and Don Paul recorded presentations for the
second convening of the Los Angeles Citizens' Grand Jury on the Crimes
of September 11, 2001. Later they spent many hours with videographer
Celestine Star adding photographs, footage, and other graphics to

FILM SYNOPSIS:

From the front-lines of conflicts in Mexico, Argentina, South Africa, Palestine, Korea, 'the North' from Seattle to Genova, and the 'War on Terror' in New York, Afghanistan, and Iraq. It is the story of men and women around the world who resist being annihilated in this war.

While our airwaves are crowded with talk of a new world war, narrated by generals and filmed from the noses of bombs, the human story of this global conflict remains untold. "The Fourth World War" brings together the images and voices of the war on the ground. It is a story of a war without end and of those who resist.

Abundance League - Thursday September 14

Thursday, September 14 at 6pm.

We love the Abundance League because it reminds us of our power, magic,
and humanity. Our lives are meaningful, some of us would even say
revolutionary,
regardless of our access to consumer products. Because we choose to live this
way and we define ourselves in relationship to each other, not to whom we vote
for or to how much crap we can buy.

Thanks again for being part of this wealthy community.

We are very excited about the dynamic created by our new format and so we
want to continue to use it. We encourage you to come prepared to
speak about your: -passions -needs -and gifts

Every Abundance Leaguer will get a chance to talk about what moves them,
what they need, and what they have to offer to this exceptional community.

If you feel called to help out by taking notes at the next gathering,
please do let us know. We received very positive feedback about our
note sharing experiment last month and would like to continue it, but
we could use your help.

See you Thursday! Abundantly yours, Neal White Arrow & Maritza

When: Thursday, September 14,6pm-10pm
Where: FAS Research headquarters (Doris and Harald's place)
   1168 Folsom Street - Unit # 304
   415.861.6445

If possible, please bring some food or drink so that the potluck is
representative of our abundant spirit.

Sept 16 Artist & Musician 7th Annual Expo
 http://www.artsandmedia.net/expo
September 16, 2006

The Seventh Annual Expo for the Artist & Musician
11 am-6 pm at SomArts Cultural Center
934 Brannan St @ 8th St. SF, CA http://somarts.org

WHAT IS THE EXPO?
The Expo is an all-day extravanganza featuring more than 100 Bay Area arts organizations, free workshops, pefomances, and hundreds of local artists and musicians. Attendees can browse tables staffed by local galleries, nonprofits, collectives and small businesses; present their portfolios; and join in workshops on grant proposals, censorship, arts marketing, underground art history, making a demo tape and more.

WHAT IS THE EXPO? back to the top
The Expo is the Bay Area's only grassroots connection fair for independent arts, music & culture -- an all-day extravaganza featuring more than 120 Bay Area arts organizations, free workshops, children's activities, our new Community Arts Showcase featuring local music and performance, and hundreds of local artists and musicians.
Attendees can meet a dazzling variety of local galleries, nonprofits, collectives and small businesses; present portfolios and music demos; and participate in workshops, seminars and skillshares on arts skills and methods, business and promotions, legal issues, community-building and more!
In 2005, after five years at Cellspace in the Mission, the Expo moved to the SomArts Cultural Center in the South of Market district.
It was the biggest, most colorful and most exciting Expo to date, with 124 arts groups exhibiting (a record number that included new groups from outside the Bay Area, from Sacramento to San Diego), approx. 1,000 individual attendees, and a new performance program -- the Community Arts Showcase -- that featured everything from Appalchian string-band dance music to North Indian Kathak dancing, even a Tuvan-style throat singer!
As we grow, the Expo remains firmly in the grassroots, and is dedicated to strengthening creative and cultural activity, participation and cross-pollination at the community level.

# How Architects Can Reverse Global Warming (2 HSWs)
September 28, 2006 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm
AIA San Francisco
130 Sutter Street, Suite 600

Ed Mazria, AIA, believes architects must become leaders in the fight against global warming. His recently launched 'Architecture 2030' www.architecture2030.org <http://www.aiasf.org/%20http:/www.architecture2030.org> draws a connection between building design and global warming, with research indicating that building design and construction could have a greater effect on reversing global warming than any other industry sector. Considering this research, the AIA Board of Directors released a policy statement calling for a 50% reduction in use of fossil fuels for buildings in four years, with additional reductions leading to eventual carbon-neutrality by 2030. Mazria will present his vision for how to meet these goals.

# OCTOBER 5: There is a way! There is a day!
http://worldcantwait.net/

Well as some of you might know (maybe all) there is a plan for a "nationwide" protest against
the fascists in power. This is being organized bz WorldCantWait I think Cascadians should
get involved.... this group involves people like Gore Vidal... their idea is to stimulate the
begining of a Colour Revolution like in the Ukraine with its Orange Revolution. I think this is
a means to get the idea of an Evergreen Revolution in the collective thoughts of
Cascadians ... so after the coming November election fraud and mostlikely WorldCantWaits
failure for a full "nationwide" revolution then Cascadians might keep these tools and ideas in
mind for our Evergreen Revolution (using the ideas from the book "From Dictatorship to
Democracy" www.hermanos.org/nonviolence/dictodem.html)
